Why the filter is essential in a hydraulic woodsplitter

In every hydraulic woodsplitter, the oil is the true “invisible engine” that allows the machine to operate smoothly, powerfully, and consistently. The oil filter is the component that protects this system, retaining impurities and particles that could damage the pump, valves, and hydraulic cylinder.

A filter in good condition allows:

  • greater efficiency of the splitting cycle,
  • less overheating of the system,
  • a significant reduction in wear,
  • a longer useful life of the machine.

What happens if the filter is dirty or worn?

An overlooked filter can cause several problems:

  • power drop during splitting,
  • irregular piston movements,
  • increased system noise,
  • hydraulic pump overload,
  • risk of costly failures.

Many extraordinary maintenance interventions arise precisely from contamination in the hydraulic oil: metal particles, wood residues, dust or micro debris transported by the circuit.
